Work Shifts Left Calculator

Choose your work schedule, days off, extra shifts, and end date to calculate how many work shifts and working hours remain.

Last updated: July 2026

Usually today. Choose whether this date itself should be counted.

This date is included if it is a scheduled shift or an added extra shift.

Regular workdays

Select at least one regular workday.

Shift length

Enter scheduled work dates you will not work, using YYYY-MM-DD. Separate dates with commas or new lines.

Enter additional shift dates outside or inside your regular schedule, using YYYY-MM-DD.

Counting convention

The start date is excluded unless selected, the end date is included, days off remove regular shifts, and extra shifts add at most one shift per date. Total time uses the fixed shift length above.

What this work-shift calculator tells you

Count your remaining shift dates and working time through an end date. Customize regular weekdays, remove days off, add extra shifts, and review the next shift, final shift, and schedule breakdowns.

How regular shifts are counted

The start date is excluded by default and the end date is included. A regular shift occurs when a date is inside that interval, its weekday is selected, and it is not listed as a day off.

How to enter days off and extra shifts

Enter real YYYY-MM-DD dates separated by commas, semicolons, or new lines. Days off remove regular shifts; extras add a shift only when that date is not already an active regular shift. A date cannot appear in both lists.

How remaining work hours are calculated

The calculator multiplies the final shift count by the fixed hours-and-minutes shift length. Breaks and unpaid time are not subtracted, so enter the working duration appropriate for your plan.

Worked example

From July 29 through August 31, 2026, excluding the start and working Monday through Friday, there are 23 regular scheduled shifts. Removing August 14 and adding August 15 leaves 23 total shifts, or 184 hours at 8 hours each. July has 2 shifts and August has 21.

Frequently asked questions

Is the start date counted?

Not by default. Enable the start-date checkbox to count it when it qualifies.

Is the end date counted?

Yes, when it is an active regular shift or a valid extra shift.

Can I include weekends as regular workdays?

Yes. Select Saturday, Sunday, or both in the regular schedule.

How do I remove vacation days or scheduled leave?

Add each affected scheduled work date to the Days off field.

How do I add overtime or an extra weekend shift?

Add its date to Extra shifts. It counts once when it is inside the selected range.

What happens if the same date is entered as both a day off and an extra shift?

The calculator shows a conflict error and asks you to remove the date from one list.

Can one date count as two shifts?

No. This version counts each calendar date at most once, even when an extra date is also a regular workday.

Does the calculator support night shifts?

Yes for counting purposes. Assign an overnight shift to the calendar date on which it starts.

Does the calculator subtract breaks or unpaid time?

No. Total time uses the fixed shift length exactly as entered.

Can I use this for rotating schedules such as four days on and four days off?

Complex repeating rotations are not supported directly. Verify the result or model exceptions manually with extra-shift and day-off dates.
