How do I calculate a weighted grade?
For each category, weighted contribution = grade × weight ÷ 100. A 90% homework grade in a category worth 20% contributes 18 percentage points. Add the raw contributions to find weighted points earned toward the full course grade.
What if my course weights do not add up to 100% yet?
If only part of the course is graded, two numbers matter. Weighted points show progress toward the full 100-point course grade. Current grade divides those points by graded course weight. For example, 42 points across 50% graded weight gives 42 ÷ 50 × 100 = 84% current grade—not 42%.
Do weighted grades have to add up to 100%?
A complete syllabus commonly defines weights totaling 100%, but this calculator applies whatever weights you enter. A total below 100% can indicate missing or ungraded work. A total above 100% triggers a warning so you can check the syllabus and inputs.
What does normalize weights mean?
Normalization treats graded weights as relative proportions and rescales their total to 100%. For weights of 20, 30, and 40 totaling 90, their proportions are preserved. Normalization is optional, off by default, and does not alter entered values.
How are ungraded categories handled?
Mark a category “Not graded yet” to include its weight in the known course structure without treating its grade as zero. It is excluded from the numerator and graded-weight denominator used for the current grade.
