Counting convention

Current savings are available on the start date. A scheduled contribution on that date counts, earlier contributions do not, and the first date on which fixed contributions meet or exceed the goal is the goal date. No interest, growth, inflation, or withdrawals are included.

What this savings goal date calculator tells you

Estimate the exact scheduled contribution date on which fixed recurring savings first meet or exceed a goal. The plan includes contribution count, projected savings, optional exact final contribution, schedule, monthly progress, and elapsed calendar time.

How the goal date is calculated

The calculator subtracts current savings from the goal, converts money to integer currency minor units, and divides the remaining amount by the fixed contribution. It rounds the contribution count upward because a partial scheduled contribution date is not possible.

How recurring contribution dates are generated

Weekly, two-weekly, and four-weekly schedules advance by 7, 14, or 28 UTC calendar days from the known date. The first occurrence on or after the plan start becomes contribution number one. A contribution on the start date counts.

Why the final contribution may exceed the goal

The main schedule preserves the fixed amount entered. If that final contribution goes above the target, the calculator shows the overshoot and a smaller optional final contribution that would reach the goal exactly.

How monthly contribution dates handle shorter months

Monthly schedules preserve the anchor's intended day. A January 31 schedule uses February's final day, returns to March 31, uses April 30, and returns to May 31 instead of permanently changing the recurrence day.

Worked example

Starting July 29, 2026 with $1,500 saved toward $5,000 and adding $400 every two weeks from July 31 requires nine contributions. Dates are July 31; August 14 and 28; September 11 and 25; October 9 and 23; and November 6 and 20. The goal date is November 20, 114 calendar days after the start. Contributions total $3,600, projected savings are $5,100, the overshoot is $100, and an exact final contribution would be $300. The next scheduled contribution is December 4.

Frequently asked questions

How is the savings goal date calculated?

The amount needed is divided by the fixed contribution and rounded up; that count is mapped to recurring dates.

Is a contribution on the plan start date counted?

Yes, when it is a scheduled occurrence.

Can the known contribution date be before the plan start?

Yes. The schedule advances from that anchor until it reaches the first occurrence on or after the start.

Why can projected savings exceed my goal?

The entered fixed contribution is not reduced automatically, so its final payment can overshoot the target.

Can I make a smaller final contribution?

Yes. The calculator displays the exact smaller final amount as an optional alternative.

How are monthly contributions scheduled from January 31?

Shorter months use their final day while preserving day 31 for later months.

Does the calculator include savings interest?

No. It assumes no interest.

Does it include investment returns or inflation?

No. Returns, inflation, taxes, matching, withdrawals, and changing contributions are not modeled.

What happens when current savings already exceed the goal?

The goal is already reached on the plan start date, with zero scheduled contributions required.

What happens when my contribution amount is zero?

If the goal is not reached, no date can be projected and no anchor is required.

Can I use weekly, biweekly, four-weekly, or monthly savings?

Yes. Choose Weekly, Every 2 weeks, Every 4 weeks, or Monthly.

Can I use a different currency?

Yes. The supported currencies use their normal fraction digits for validation and formatting.

Is this financial advice?

No. It is a fixed-contribution planning estimate. Recalculate after missed, increased, or withdrawn contributions.
