How do I calculate hours worked with a break?
Paid work time = clock-out − clock-in − unpaid break. For example, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM spans 8 hours 30 minutes. Subtracting a 30-minute unpaid lunch leaves exactly 8 paid hours.
How do I calculate an overnight shift?
Turn on Ends next day. The calculator adds the time from clock-in to midnight to the time from midnight to clock-out, then subtracts the unpaid break. A 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM shift spans 8 hours; after a 30-minute break, paid time is 7 hours 30 minutes.
Without next-day handling, clock-out must be later than clock-in. One row can model no more than 24 hours; use separate rows for longer assignments.
How do I convert work time to decimal hours?
Decimal hours = total paid minutes ÷ 60. Seven hours 30 minutes is 450 minutes, so it equals 7.50 hours—not 7.30. Seven hours 40 minutes is 460 ÷ 60, or approximately 7.67 decimal hours.

The calculator uses the entered clock minutes without automatic five-, six-, ten-, or fifteen-minute rounding. It totals paid work time but does not classify overtime, calculate wages, apply mandatory-break rules, or interpret labor law.
