CPI is published monthly and usually becomes available after the measured month. “Current” here means the latest officially published CPI month, not today’s exact price level.
How the calculation works
Equivalent later amount = past amount × later CPI ÷ earlier CPI. CPI-U measures average price change for a broad urban-consumer basket, not an individual household’s spending pattern.
Monthly CPI, not daily prices
The calculator does not interpolate or extrapolate CPI. Latest observations can lag today and recent values may be revised.
