What does the U.S. age structure show?
The explorer uses annual Census Bureau resident-population estimates for each single year of age. Select a range to see its population, share of the national total, sex composition, and change between July 1 estimates.
How are five-year age groups calculated?
Each group sums its underlying official single-year ages. Age 100+ remains a distinct open-ended category and is never combined with ages 95–99.
How should comparisons be interpreted?
Changes compare two annual estimates using raw values. They do not explain why a population changed and are not projections or policy conclusions. Future Census vintages may revise earlier estimates.
