How the traditional Chinese lunar calendar is matched
The calculator checks every Gregorian date in the selected year using the traditional Chinese calendar built into your browser. It reads the lunar month, day, related year, and leap-month marker, then returns every exact match. Calculations stay in your browser and use UTC date-only arithmetic.
Regular months and leap months
A leap lunar month is an intercalary month inserted to keep the lunisolar calendar aligned with the seasons. It is distinct from the regular month with the same number. Choose “Leap lunar month” only when the recorded date explicitly identifies one.
Why lunar birthdays move each year
Traditional Chinese lunar months follow cycles of the moon, while Gregorian years follow the solar calendar. Their different structures mean the corresponding Gregorian birthday moves from year to year, sometimes substantially.

It uses the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar exposed by your browser, not every calendar sometimes called “lunar.”
Why does my lunar birthday move each year?
Lunar months and Gregorian months follow different astronomical cycles, so their dates do not align the same way every year.
What is a leap lunar month?
It is an extra intercalary month. A leap month and the regular month with the same number are treated as different months.
What if lunar day 30 does not occur that year?
The calculator reports no match. It does not silently substitute day 29.
Why does the tool show no match for a leap month?
The selected numbered leap month may not occur in that Gregorian year, or the requested day may not exist in it.
Can regional lunar calendars differ?
Yes. Regional and family traditions may use different conventions, so compare the result with the tradition relevant to you.
