Tesla Model Y Charging Cost Calculator
Select your Tesla Model Y year and trim, choose a starting and target battery percentage, and calculate home or public charging cost using preset battery capacity and your electricity rate.
Last updated: July 2026
No additional charging is needed because the starting and target percentages are equal.

How much does it cost to charge a Tesla Model Y?
Battery energy added = Usable battery capacity × Charge percentage added. Estimated wall electricity equals battery energy divided by charging efficiency. Charging cost equals wall electricity multiplied by the entered electricity price.
Why this calculator starts with your Model Y version
Battery capacity varies by production period, trim, market, factory, pack supplier, and vehicle revision. Selecting the closest version automatically provides a usable-capacity estimate, so owners do not need to know battery kWh before calculating. The capacity remains editable for vehicles that differ from the preset.
Why 20% to 80% means 60%
A 20% → 80% session adds 60 percentage points, not 80%. For a 75 kWh usable battery, 75 × 0.60 = 45 kWh added to the battery. At 90% efficiency, that requires an estimated 50 kWh from the wall.
Model Y charging-cost examples
75 kWh Long Range AWD
A 20% → 80% charge adds 45 kWh. At 90% efficiency, wall energy is 50 kWh. At $0.16/kWh, the estimated cost is exactly $8.00.
57 kWh RWD
A 20% → 80% charge adds 34.2 kWh and requires 38 kWh from the wall at 90% efficiency. At $0.16/kWh, the estimated cost is $6.08.
79 kWh Premium AWD
A 10% → 90% charge adds 63.2 kWh and requires approximately 70.222 kWh from the wall. At $0.20/kWh, the estimated cost is approximately $14.04.
Why wall energy is higher than battery energy
Some electricity is lost during charging, so electricity drawn from the wall can exceed energy added to the battery. The calculator uses 90% as a practical default estimate, not a universal measurement. Change it under Advanced options when you have a better estimate.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to charge a Tesla Model Y from 20% to 80%?
It depends on usable battery capacity, charging efficiency, and electricity price. Select your Model Y version and the calculator fills the capacity automatically.
What battery size does my Model Y have?
Capacity varies by production period, trim, market, and pack. Select the closest version and edit the preset if you know your vehicle differs.
Do I need to know my battery capacity?
Usually not. Selecting a supported Model Y version automatically supplies a usable-capacity estimate.
Why can I edit battery capacity?
Some production runs and markets use different packs even within similar versions.
How much does a full Model Y charge cost?
The result includes an estimated 0% → 100% cost using the same capacity, efficiency, and electricity price.
Does this use current Supercharger prices?
No. Prices vary by site and time. Enter an optional second per-kWh rate to compare another charger.
