How is mileage reimbursement calculated?
Mileage amount = Miles x Rate per mile. For example, 500 business miles at $0.76 per mile equals $380. Kilometer inputs are divided by exactly 1.609344 before applying the cents-per-mile rate.
Why does the mileage date matter in 2026?
The supplied IRS rates change on July 1, 2026. Business mileage is 72.5 cents per mile through June 30 and 76 cents beginning July 1. Medical and eligible moving mileage changes from 20.5 to 23.5 cents; charity remains 14 cents.
Rate arithmetic is not eligibility advice
The IRS optional standard mileage rate is commonly used for deductible vehicle-cost calculations and reimbursement arrangements, but employer policies can differ. Tax deductibility and eligibility depend on IRS rules and individual circumstances. Moving eligibility is restricted; this calculator does not determine whether a trip qualifies.
Where otherwise applicable, standard mileage-rate rules can cover fully electric and hybrid automobiles as well as gasoline and diesel vehicles.
