Recording time = Available storage ÷ Estimated file size per minute.
Storage required = Recording minutes × Estimated file size per minute.
This calculator uses decimal storage units: 1 GB = 1,000 MB and 1 TB = 1,000 GB. The recording-size presets are editable planning estimates, not guaranteed Apple file sizes.
Why actual video files vary
Actual files can vary with format, device, scene, software version, codec, and camera settings. The calculator does not separately model Dolby Vision, SDR versus HDR, stabilization, audio mode, or front versus rear camera. For an unusual recording setting, use Custom estimate.

Does 4K use more storage than 1080p?
Usually. The provided presets make that comparison visible, but they are planning estimates rather than an exact file-size promise.
Does 60 fps use more storage than 30 fps?
It can. The 60 fps presets use higher planning values so you can compare their storage effect.
Why is advertised capacity different from free storage?
Apps, iOS, photos, downloads, and system data use part of the device capacity. Enter the free space shown in iPhone Storage for a more useful estimate.
Do HEVC and H.264 files have the same size?
No. Codec and recording conditions can change size materially, which is why the MB-per-minute field remains editable.
Why is ProRes excluded?
This tool is limited to ordinary editable planning estimates and does not calculate Apple ProRes or ProRes RAW storage.
